Woke up to Chris at the helm, enjoying an excellent sail toward our destination. Winds a perfect 18-20 knots at our fastest point of sail. Seas (both swells from two directions and wind waves) present, but not uncomfortable. We are enjoying the wind while we have it! Even had a small cup of coffee (hadn’t sounded good before). Our router had given us a waypoint to head towards, but we were so excited sailing that we went quite a bit east of that point…and found ourselves eating 1-2 knots of current! We sheepishly asked how to get out of this current and are trying to do that, but looks like we’ll be in it for 80 hours. I guess that’s one of many reasons we have a weather router!

By the afternoon, wind on the nose and minimal, time to motor for a bit. We snuck in a short sail, but back to motoring.
We’re on a mission to eat all our fruit, vegetables, dairy, nuts, and seeds; the items that NZ Biosecurity will take from us upon arrival. Tonight’s dinner was pasta loaded with veggies, topped with an Italian dressing and Parmesan cheese.
There is a boat about 200nm from us that lost its rudder so they have no steering. They have rigged something up and are going along at about 3 knots. There’s a massive system coming in early next week, so there’s time pressure to get them to New Zealand. Our friends are going out to try to tow them. This is an amazing community.

We go into the evening with ocean swell that looks like silk sheets, with innocent white clouds outlined by sunset.
